Spalted Maple Bowl, 5”
$85.00
Hand-turned vessel in spalted maple, milled from a log sourced close to the shop. The wall flares open at the rim and draws back in toward the base, giving the piece a lifted, almost trumpet-like stance that sets it apart from a standard bowl.
Spalting brings the drama. Dark veining threads through the surface in long feathery runs, the result of natural decay caught and stabilized at just the right moment. Each streak is particular to this single blank, so the piece can’t be duplicated.
The upswept form and deeper body make this one lean toward display. Set it on a shelf or mantel where the silhouette can be seen in the round, or let it hold rings, keys, or small odds and ends by the door.
